Circular Economy Action Plan and Roadmap in Ghana

How can Ghana successfully transition to a circular economy?

In collaboration with the Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI), and the European Union Delegation in Ghana a national Circular Economy Action Plan (CEAP) has been developed. The project conducted a comprehensive analysis of eleven sectors and prioritised six –  water, waste, plastics, agriculture, construction and textiles based on literature review and stakeholder consultations.

The CEAP outlines clear goals and actions to advance the circular economy in Ghana; first for each sector chosen and then for cross-cutting elements such as capacity building and gender equality. The goals and actions are rooted in African practices and meet international standards. To ensure a smooth implementation, the CEAP includes a governance structure, a costing overview and monitoring and evaluation framework.

Stakeholders from civil society, government, private sector, international partners, and the informal sector provided insights and feedback through three workshops. Their contributions were integral to shaping the CEAP and ensuring its alignment with Ghana’s development priorities. The CEAP will be published for public consumption this year.
